Rolling hills, huge cornfields and the great Blackstairs Mountains surround the ancient territory of Ossory with its riverside towns and rural villages.
Gowran, the ancient seat of the Kings of Ossory, offers one of Ireland's best horse racing experiences and is also home to an 18-hole parkland golf course.
Partially restored, the 13th century St Mary's medieval collegiate church, with its beautiful 14th and 16th century features, dominates the village. The site dates back to early Christian times.
Within easy reach of Gowran are some of the country's greatest treasures and places of interest:

- Mount Juliet with its Jack Nicklaus designed golf course and five star hotel.
