At Gowran Abbey Nursing Home we offer a holistic approach to care, striving to maintain our residents' independence as far as possible. Our Nursing and Care services are led by our experienced Director of Nursing and are provided by our dedicated team of care professionals.

The services which we provide at Gowran Abbey Nursing Home include: Long Term, Short Term, Respite Care, Convalescence and Palliative Care. 

Managed by local GPs

The core team of three local GPs manage and provide medical expertise for residents of the home.

24 hour Medical Care is provided by residents' own GP and On Call Service.

It may be necessary to discuss transferring your medical care to a more regular visiting GP with your current GP prior to admission. The fee for your GP visits will be covered by your Medical Card or GP Visit Card or you can discuss fees if neither are applicable.

Pharmacy service is provided by Gowran Pharmacy. Your medications will be covered by your medical card or long term illness card as appropriate but you will be liable for the current prescription charges. The pharmacist is available for guidance if required.

Activities

We have a dedicated, trained activities co-ordinator supported by approved volunteers who provides a varied range of activities to suit the residents’ individual needs and promote an active lifestyle.

  • Questions and Answers, Music, Karaoke, Bingo, Arts and Crafts, along with seasonal entertainment and events.

Your quality of life can be greatly enhanced by joining in the activities programme, there is something to suit everyone. If you have an activity that you are interested in we will facilitate if reasonably possible.

The local day care centre will be happy to welcome you and we will facilitate your attendance if possible.

Your post and newspaper will be delivered to your bedroom, staff will assist you as required

Visitors are always welcome, family, neighbours, friends and your pets.

Residents are encouraged to go on outings with family and friends.

There is a nominal fee of €40.00 per month for the activities programme.

Pastoral Care

All religious beliefs are catered for.

Mass is celebrated weekly with members of the care team commissioned as Eucharistic Ministers to distribute Communion during the week.

The oratory provides a peaceful place for private prayer and quiet reflection

 

 

Dining

Our chefs and catering staff provide a menu that is fresh, varied, appetising and nutritious from local suppliers.

Our choice of menu caters for special dietary requirements e.g, diabetic, coeliac, low protein and cholesterol.

Fortified and modified consistency diets are provided for resident with eating and swallowing difficulties in consultation with Speech and Language Therapists and Dieticians  

Assistance with meals is provided for residents as required.

Residents / Relatives Meeting

Residents and relatives are invited to attend quarterly meetings chaired by our activity coordinator where you can give feedback on your life experience in the nursing home, how we might improve your experience or to raise any concerns you may have.

 We strive to resolve any concerns or complaints fairly and promptly.

Independent advocacy services may be of assistance to you if your concerns or complaint are not addressed to your satisfaction

You may speak to any staff member at any time to discuss your care or concerns.

Cost of Care

The Fair Deal (Nursing Home Support) scheme provides financial support for people requiring long term care in a private, public or voluntary nursing home. A care needs and financial assessment is carried out that will determine what your contribution and the states contribution to your care will be.

The Fair Deal scheme only covers the cost of room and board and basic care and appliances. It does not include specialist equipment, aids or appliances, therapies, medications. If you hold a full medical card you will be entitled to these following assessment if require otherwise you or your family will be responsible to cover the cost.

Hairdressing, newspapers, transport and escort to appointments if organised by the nursing home will be charged to the resident by the nursing home.

The fair deal application should be completed and submitted prior to admission to the nursing home as any cost occurring prior to approval will be the responsibility of resident or family.
